RV Refrigerator Parts by Refrigerator Model

Your RV refrigerator is either a gas absorption model or an AC/ DC model refrigerator. Gas absorption models have coils on the back (the cooling unit) and are capable of operating on LP/ propane. AC/ DC models have a compressor and do not have an LP/ propane mode of operation.

The rule of thumb has always been:

AC/ DC models - typically in boats

Gas Absorption models - typically in RVs

However, more and more RVs are adapting to 12V compressor-run RV refrigerators. If you camp off-grid, it's usually best to have a gas absorption style cooling unit so that you can run it on LP and not draw too much battery power. If you're always plugged in, you have either option at your disposal.
