Flexible Solar Panels

Flexible Solar Panels

Flexible solar panels bend to fit curved roofs, fiberglass caps, Airstreams and camper vans. They weigh about half as much as a rigid panel, and many install with adhesive, so no drilling into your roof. Shop flexible panels from Renogy and the Xantrex Solar Max line.

When a flexible panel makes sense

  • Curved or uneven roofs where a framed panel won't sit flat. Panels here flex 180 to 240°.
  • Weight-sensitive installs: pop-ups, teardrops, truck campers and vans.
  • No-drill mounting: peel-and-stick adhesive (Xantrex uses two layers of 3M tape) avoids new roof penetrations.
  • Low profile: about 0.1 to 0.2 inches thick, so they're nearly invisible and add almost no wind drag.

Things to know before you buy

  • Heat: with no air gap underneath, flexible panels run hotter than rigid panels. Choose ETFE-surface, half-cut or mesh-grid designs (Renogy, Xantrex Solar Max) for better heat and hot-spot resistance.
  • Lifespan and warranty: flexible panels typically carry 1 to 5-year warranties, versus 10 to 25 for rigid. Renogy rates its panels to keep at least 90% of output over 5 years.
  • Clean the surface well before applying adhesive, and follow the manufacturer's temperature guidelines for the install.

Complete your system

Pair flexible panels with a solar charge controller. If you run LiFePO4 batteries, use one of our Lithium MPPT Charge Controllers. Need maximum output and lifespan instead? See Rigid Solar Panels. Questions? Call 1-800-712-8822.
