Rigid Solar Panels
Rigid solar panels are the go-to choice for a permanent RV roof install. A tempered-glass face and anodized aluminum frame give them the best durability, efficiency and lifespan of any panel type. Many carry power-output warranties of 10 to 25 years. Shop rigid monocrystalline and N-type panels from Rich Solar, Battle Born, Renogy, Furrion and Redarc, from 50 W up to 375 W.
Why choose a rigid panel?
- Durability: rated for high wind and heavy snow loads, and resistant to hail and road vibration.
- Efficiency and heat handling: the frame lets air flow under the panel, keeping cells cooler and output higher than adhesive-mounted flexible panels.
- Longest lifespan: expect decades of service, with low degradation year over year.
- Best value per watt: rigid panels usually cost the least per watt of any panel type.
Picking the right rigid panel
- Measure your roof first. Slim and compact panels, like Renogy's 200 W Slim and N-type models and the Rich Solar MEGA 100 Slim, fit narrow van and trailer roofs around vents and A/C units.
- 12 V vs. 24 V: 12 V panels suit small PWM systems. 24 V-class panels, like Rich Solar's MEGA PRO line and the Battle Born 375 W Blackout, pair best with an MPPT controller and let you run thinner wire.
- Shade: anti-shading technology, like Renogy ShadowFlux and Battle Born ShadeGuard, keeps power flowing when trees or roof gear shade part of the panel.
Installation tips
Mount with Z-brackets or tilt mounts, seal every roof penetration with self-leveling lap sealant, and run your cables through a roof entry gland. Pair your array with a properly sized solar charge controller. For lithium batteries, choose one of our Lithium MPPT Charge Controllers.
