RV Solar Solutions

Run your fridge, lights, fans and devices off-grid. With the right solar setup you can camp for days without a generator or shore power. At RV Fridge Guys we carry complete RV solar solutions from brands RVers trust, including Victron Energy, Renogy, Battle Born, Go Power, Rich Solar, Xantrex, Furrion, Redarc, Samlex and AIMS Power.

What you need for an RV solar system

  • Solar panels turn sunlight into DC power. Choose rigid panels for permanent roof mounts, flexible panels for curved or weight-sensitive roofs, or portable folding panels and blankets you can set up in the sun while you park in the shade.
  • A solar charge controller sits between the panels and your batteries. It regulates voltage and current so your batteries charge fully and safely without being overcharged.
  • Batteries store the energy for night use. Lithium (LiFePO4) batteries need a controller with a lithium charging profile.

How much solar does my RV need?

As a starting point, add up the watt-hours you use per day, then divide by about 5 peak sun hours. A weekender running lights, a water pump, fans and phone charging often gets by on 200 to 400 watts. Running a 12V compressor fridge, a residential fridge on an inverter, or working remotely usually calls for 600 watts or more, paired with a lithium battery bank.

MPPT vs. PWM charge controllers

MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) controllers convert excess panel voltage into extra charging current. They typically harvest 15 to 30% more energy than PWM, especially in cold weather and when panels are wired in series. PWM controllers are simpler and more affordable, a good fit for small 12V systems where the panel voltage closely matches the battery. For lithium battery banks and larger arrays, we recommend MPPT.
