RV Solar Chargers

Your solar charge controller is the brain of your RV solar system. It manages the power coming from your panels and charges your batteries quickly, fully and safely. We carry MPPT and PWM charge controllers from Victron Energy, Renogy, Go Power, Rich Solar, AIMS Power, Xantrex, Samlex and Redarc, from 10 amps for small setups to 200 amps for big 48V systems.

MPPT or PWM: which do you need?

  • MPPT controllers track your panels' maximum power point and convert extra voltage into charging current, harvesting up to 30% more energy than PWM. They're the right choice for lithium batteries, larger arrays, series-wired panels and cold or cloudy climates. Shop Lithium MPPT Charge Controllers.
  • PWM controllers are simple, reliable and budget-friendly. They work best on small 12V systems where panel voltage closely matches battery voltage.

How to size a charge controller

Divide your total panel wattage by your battery voltage, then add a 25% safety margin. For example, 400 W ÷ 12 V ≈ 33 A, so choose a 40 A controller. For MPPT controllers, also make sure the panels' combined open-circuit voltage (Voc), adjusted for cold temperatures, stays below the controller's maximum PV voltage (the first number in Victron's "100/50" rating, for example).

Features worth having

  • Bluetooth monitoring: check charge status and history from your phone (Victron SmartSolar, Renogy Rover Li and REGO, Rich Solar BRAVO, Go Power).
  • Lithium charging profiles: required for LiFePO4 batteries to charge to the right voltage without overcharging.
  • RV-C and networking: Go Power and Renogy REGO controllers integrate with RV-C systems in modern coaches. Victron VE.Can models network with other Victron gear.
  • Wall-mount displays: flush-mount controllers (Go Power, Xantrex, AIMS) put solar info right on your RV wall.

Solar charge controller FAQs

Do I need a special controller for lithium batteries? Yes. You need a controller with a LiFePO4 profile or adjustable charge voltages. MPPT controllers are strongly recommended for lithium banks because they make the most of your array.

Can I add more panels later? Yes, if your controller has headroom. Many MPPT models, like Go Power's stackable controllers and Victron SmartSolar units, let you expand by adding a second controller.
