Description

Nordic Cooling Unit 3361A for Norcold N611, N621 & N641

The Nordic Cooling Unit 3361A is a remanufactured replacement absorption cooling unit designed for select Norcold N611, N621, and N641 RV refrigerators.

The 3361A is specifically built for the refrigerator configuration that uses the 45-degree AC heating-element well. Because Norcold used different heater-well orientations during production, it is important to verify the original cooling-unit configuration before ordering.

Models It Fits

The Nordic 3361A fits select:

  • N610
  • N611
  • N621
  • N622
  • N641
  • N642
  • NX611
  • NX641
  • NXA641
  • 962
  • 9162

The refrigerator must use the 45-degree AC heating-element well configuration.

Do not order based only on the refrigerator model number. Verify the heater-well orientation on the original cooling unit before installation.

How to Identify the Correct Cooling Unit

The most important fitment detail is the angle of the AC heating-element well.

The Nordic 3361A uses a 45-degree heating-element well.

If the original AC heating element enters the boiler assembly at approximately a 45-degree angle, this is the configuration the 3361A is designed to replace.

This makes visual inspection of the existing cooling unit one of the easiest ways to confirm fitment.

What the Cooling Unit Does

The cooling unit is the sealed absorption system mounted to the rear of the refrigerator.

It contains the boiler, condenser, absorber tubing, evaporator, and internal refrigerant solution responsible for producing cooling.

Heat from either the LP gas burner or AC heating element drives the absorption process. If the sealed cooling unit fails, the refrigerator may still have working controls, lights, burner components, and heating elements while no longer cooling properly.

Signs of a Failed Cooling Unit

A failed or restricted cooling unit may cause:

  • Refrigerator does not cool on propane or electric

  • Freezer gets somewhat cold but refrigerator compartment stays warm

  • Cooling performance gradually declines

  • Boiler becomes hot but little cooling occurs

  • Yellow residue appears around the rear cooling unit

  • Strong ammonia odor is present

  • Refrigerator stops cooling even though the burner and heating element work

  • Internal blockage develops in the absorption system

Before replacing the cooling unit, verify that the problem is not being caused by the thermistor, control board, burner, heating element, ventilation, or other service components.

Remanufactured Replacement Cooling Unit

Nordic specializes in remanufactured RV absorption cooling units.

The remanufacturing process commonly includes:

  • New steel tubing where required

  • New foam pack

  • New boiler insulation

  • New exterior coating

  • Recharged absorption solution

  • Pressure and performance testing

The goal is to restore the refrigerator’s sealed cooling system without replacing the complete refrigerator.

Why Replace the Cooling Unit Instead of the Refrigerator?

Replacing the cooling unit can be a practical option when the refrigerator cabinet, doors, controls, and other components are still in good condition.

It allows the original refrigerator cabinet and installation footprint to remain in place while replacing the sealed cooling system that actually produces the cold.

For many Norcold N611, N621, and N641 refrigerators, this can be a much simpler and more cost-effective repair than replacing the entire refrigerator.

Core Return

Nordic remanufactured cooling units commonly require the original cooling unit to be returned as a core.

Follow the included return instructions and verify current core-return requirements before discarding the original unit.

Installation Overview

Cooling-unit replacement is a straightforward remove-and-replace repair for these refrigerators.

Typical installation includes:

  1. Remove the refrigerator from the RV cabinet.

  2. Disconnect the LP gas and electrical connections.

  3. Remove the original cooling unit from the refrigerator cabinet.

  4. Clean the evaporator-contact surfaces.

  5. Install and seal the replacement cooling unit.

  6. Reinstall the AC heating element and burner components.

  7. Reconnect wiring and propane.

  8. Reinstall the refrigerator.

  9. Leak-test the propane connection.

  10. Turn the refrigerator on and verify cooling operation.

Installation Notes

Proper contact between the replacement cooling unit and the refrigerator cabinet is important for good performance.

Make sure the evaporator sections sit firmly against the refrigerator box and that the foam pack and insulation are sealed correctly.

Also verify:

  • Proper upper and lower refrigerator ventilation

  • Correct burner operation

  • Correct AC heating-element operation

  • Clean condenser area

  • Proper thermistor operation

  • Refrigerator is operated reasonably level

    easy

Pretty easy instllation. I used 2 tubes of that thermal mastic from this store. Did the job well. I removed the door handles and just laid the refrigerator on the floor face down. Had some help from my neighbor pulling it out and getting it on the floor. Heavy sucker!
