This Dometic thermistor, part number 3851059042, is the fresh-food compartment temperature sensor listed for the Dometic DM2852. The product photo shows the sensor on its lead with a fin clip and a 2-pin plug.
Superseded part: Dometic's newer replacement for 3851059042 is thermistor 3851210025, which also replaces 2931863035 and 2931863076.
What the thermistor does
The sensor clips to the cooling fins inside the refrigerator. Its resistance changes with temperature, and the control board reads it to decide when to cool. If the reading is wrong or missing, many Dometic controls cool continuously, which is why a bad thermistor often freezes everything.
Signs your thermistor may need replacing
- Food in the fresh-food compartment freezes regardless of the temperature setting
- Changing the temperature setting makes little or no difference
- Poor cooling or no cooling
How to test your old thermistor
Unplug it from the control board, place the sensor end in ice water (about 33–35°F) for a few minutes, and measure the resistance across the leads. Dometic's service guidance for these models calls for roughly 7,000–10,000 ohms.
Installation
Turn the refrigerator off and disconnect power. Clip the new sensor to the fins in the same position as the old one, then route the lead and plug it into the control board (usually through the exterior refrigerator vent). Tools: usually none. Allow 10–30 minutes.
