Dometic RV Refrigerator Thermistor Assembly 3851059034 (41" Lead)
This Dometic thermistor assembly, part number 3851059034, is the temperature sensor for the fresh-food compartment on Dometic refrigerators such as the DM2652. It has a 41-inch lead, and the product photo shows it with a fin clip and a 2-pin plug.
What the thermistor does
The thermistor clips to the cooling fins inside the refrigerator. Its resistance changes with temperature, rising as it gets colder. The control board reads that resistance to decide when to start and stop cooling. If the reading is wrong or missing, many Dometic controls cool continuously, which is why a bad thermistor often freezes everything.
Signs your thermistor may need replacing
- Food in the fresh-food compartment freezes regardless of the temperature setting
- Changing the temperature setting makes little or no difference
- Poor cooling or no cooling
How to test your old thermistor
Unplug it from the control board, put the sensor end in ice water (about 33–35°F) for a few minutes, and measure the resistance across the leads. Dometic's service guidance for these refrigerators calls for roughly 7,000–10,000 ohms. Readings far outside that range, or an open circuit, mean replace it.
Installation
- Turn the refrigerator off and disconnect power.
- Clip the new sensor to the fins in the same position as the old one.
- Route the 41" lead the same way and plug it into the thermistor connector on the control board (usually reached through the exterior refrigerator vent).
- Tools: usually none. Allow 10–30 minutes depending on board access.
