Norcold Is Not Disappearing! What The DCA Transition Means For RVers

Norcold Is Not Disappearing

There has been a lot of chatter lately about Norcold.

Some of it makes it sound like the company vanished overnight, the parts are gone forever, and every Norcold refrigerator in America is about to become a very expensive pantry.

That is not what we are seeing.

Yes, Norcold went through Chapter 11.

But the more important part is what happened next.

The Brand Is Still Moving Forward

Dave Carter & Associates, better known as DCA, purchased substantially all of Norcold's assets through the bankruptcy process.

And DCA is not some random company that wandered in off the street and bought a pile of refrigerator parts.

DCA is owned by Thetford, which was also Norcold's parent company when the Chapter 11 filing happened.

That matters.

To us, this looks a lot less like Norcold disappearing and a lot more like the business being reorganized and moved into a different distribution structure.

We are already seeing that happen.

DCA has started changing over Norcold part numbers and bringing products into its own system. We have also heard directly from a source at DCA that this period is much more of a transition than an ending.

That lines up pretty closely with what we are seeing on our end.

There May Be Some Bumps Along the Way

Anytime a big parts operation gets moved around, things get messy for a little while.

Inventory has to move.

Part numbers change.

Warehouse systems have to catch up.

Some parts may temporarily become harder to find.

Basically, it's the RV-parts version of moving houses. You know you packed the coffee maker somewhere. You just have no idea which box it's in.

That does not mean the coffee maker is gone forever.

The same idea applies here.

Parts Availability Could Actually Improve

This is the part we are most interested in.

Norcold parts have always been vulnerable to seasonal demand.

A part that is sitting on the shelf in January can suddenly become very difficult to get in June when half the country fires up the RV and realizes the refrigerator has other plans.

Our hope is that DCA's distribution network actually improves that.

If more Norcold parts are moved into a larger, established RV-parts distribution system, there is a real chance that inventory will be easier to manage and easier to get during the busiest parts of the year.

That means fewer backorders, fewer long waits, and hopefully fewer RV owners trying to keep milk cold in a cooler for two weeks.

We Are Doubling Down on Norcold

This is the part we want to be very clear about.

RV Fridge Guys is not backing away from Norcold.

We are doubling down.

We are continuing to stock Norcold parts, track part-number changes, identify replacements, update fitment information, and help RV owners figure out what they actually need.

As DCA transitions older Norcold numbers into its system, we will keep updating our listings so customers are not left trying to figure out whether an old part number is still good, has been replaced, or now has a completely different number.

If an original Norcold part is no longer available and there is a proven aftermarket replacement, we will point that out too.

Our job is not to preserve old part numbers for history's sake.

Our job is to help you fix your refrigerator.

What Does This Mean for RV Owners?

In simple terms:

Norcold is not just disappearing.

The old business structure changed.

The parts operation is transitioning.

The numbering system is changing.

And the distribution network is being reorganized.

There may be some short-term headaches while everything gets sorted out, but we are cautiously optimistic that this could ultimately lead to better parts availability.

And no matter how the labels, numbers, or warehouses change, we are going to keep supporting Norcold refrigerators for campers across the country.

Because there are still a lot of Norcold refrigerators out there.

And they are definitely not all going to stop needing parts just because a bankruptcy filing happened.

If anything, keeping those refrigerators running is going to matter more than ever.

And we plan on being here for it.
