CODE E7

Norcold N15DC and N20DC Error Code E7: Fresh Food Evaporator Fan

The fan that moves cold air inside the fresh food compartment has failed or is blocked.

Before you start

  • You’ll need a flashlight, a screwdriver and a soft brush or vacuum.
  • Before unplugging anything turn the fridge off at the ON/OFF button and disconnect its 12V supply (or pull the two fuses under the fridge).

Fits these models

N15DCN15DCSSN15DCIMSSN20DCN20DCSS

Norcold’s 12V DC compressor refrigerators (14.9 and 18.6 cu ft). These run on 12 volts only: no propane, no 120V heater.

What you’ll see

ON/OFFMODENORCOLDN15DC / N20DC

E7 blinking in the MODE display. It means the fresh food evaporator fan isn’t running the way the control expects.

STEP 1

Restart the fridge

Touch and hold the ON/OFF button for 5 seconds to turn it off, then turn it back on. After it’s been off, the compressor waits 5 minutes before it starts again, so give it time before you judge.

Is the code still there?

NO
▼

Watch it for a day

It was likely a one-time glitch. If the code comes back, continue with Step 2.

STEP 2

Look for a blockage

Open the fresh food compartment and look at the internal fan and its cover. Check for ice, food or packaging blocking the fan. A coil iced over from a door left open can stop it too.

▼
?

Is something blocking the fan?

YES
▼

Clear it

Remove the blockage (let any ice melt rather than chipping at it), power back on and check the code. If it’s still there, go to Step 3.

NO

STEP 3

Check the fan’s plug and wiring

With the fridge off and 12V disconnected, check that the fan connector is fully seated and the wires aren’t pinched, cut or corroded. Spin the fan blade by hand: it should turn freely.

▼
?

Plug and wiring good, blade spins freely?

NO
▼

Fix the connection

Reseat the plug or repair the wiring, then check the code. A blade that’s stiff or grinding means the fan needs replacing.

YES
▼

Replace the fan

With the fan clear and plugged in, the fan motor is the likely cause. Norcold’s parts list shows cabinet fan 641042 for these models. See the N15DC or N20DC parts.
