Norcold N6XX / N8XX AC HE Code (AC Heater Failed)
The board isn’t seeing the 120V AC heater, so the fridge won’t cool on AC. Check the heater connections and resistance, then the power board.
Before you start
- Where things are. The power board, fuses and burner are behind the lower outside vent, under a cover on the back of the fridge. The optical control (display) assembly is in the front box at the top.
- Good AC voltage is 108 to 132 volts AC, with nothing else on the fridge’s AC circuit.
- You’ll need a multimeter set to ohms.
Fits these models
Includes 2-way and 3-way versions, plus the .3 and IM (ice maker) versions.
What you’ll see on your model
N61X / N81X (LED lights)
N62X / N82X (one-letter display)
N64X / N84X (two-part display)
STEP 1
Check the heater connections
Turn the fridge off and unplug it. Check the AC heater wires and connectors for loose, burnt or damaged terminals.
Are the connections good?
Repair the connectors
Repair or replace the connectors. If they can’t be repaired, replace the heater.
STEP 2
Measure the AC heater
Disconnect the heater leads and measure ohms across the heater.
Is it 38 to 53 ohms?
Replace the AC heater
The heater has failed open or is out of range. These models use a 300-watt heater. See our Norcold AC heaters and match your old part number.
Replace the power board
The heater is good, so the board isn’t powering it.
