DC HE
Norcold N6XX / N8XX dc HE Code (DC Heater Failed)
On 3-way models, the board isn’t seeing the 12V DC heater. Either the 30-amp F2 fuse has blown, the heater has failed open, or the board can’t drive it.
Before you start
- Where things are. The power board, fuses and burner are behind the lower outside vent, under a cover on the back of the fridge. The optical control (display) assembly is in the front box at the top.
- 3-way models only. This code shows on the N64X.3 and N84X.3.
- Good voltage is 10.5 to 15.4 volts DC.
- You’ll need a multimeter set to ohms and continuity.
Fits these models
Includes 2-way and 3-way versions, plus the .3 and IM (ice maker) versions.
What you’ll see on your model
N61X / N81X (LED lights)
N62X / N82X (one-letter display)
N64X / N84X (two-part display)
STEP 1
Check the F2 fuse
Pull fuse F2 from the power board and check it for continuity.
Is the fuse good?
Replace the fuse
Use a standard 30-amp (green) automotive blade fuse. If it blows again, look for a shorted heater or wire.
STEP 2
Measure the DC heater
Disconnect the DC heater leads and measure ohms across the heater.
Is it 0.81 to 0.91 ohms?
Replace the DC heater
The heater has failed open or is out of range. Match the part to your model, or ask a tech.
Replace the power board
The heater is good, so the board isn’t powering it.
