Norcold N7X/ N8X Flashing Five Times / Flame Sensed Fault (quick fix!)
FLASH PATTERN 5
Norcold N7X / N8X Flame Sensed Fault
The red light flashes five times, goes off for 5 seconds and repeats. The control board senses a flame at the burner when there shouldn’t be one, because the gas valve is mechanically stuck open. The fix is a new gas train (gas valve, sparker and burner).
Before you start
- Note the code. Count the flashes twice to be sure it’s 5 and not 4 or 8. Those point to different faults.
- Treat it as a gas problem. A valve stuck open can let propane flow when it shouldn’t. Shut the gas off first and check for the smell of propane.
STEP 1
Shut off the propane
Turn the fridge OFF. Close the propane supply to the fridge (the tank valve, or the fridge’s shutoff valve if it has one).
Do you smell propane?
Get to safety first
Leave the propane off, don’t flip switches or use anything that could spark, open the RV up and get everyone out. Have the leak checked by an RV or propane technician before using the fridge on gas.
STEP 2
Reset and test once
Turn the propane back on, then turn the fridge ON. Watch the light.
Does the 5-flash code come back?
Solved for now
The code cleared. If 5 flashes return, the valve is sticking open again. Replace the gas train.
Replace the gas train
Because the gas valve is stuck open mechanically, Norcold’s fix is a new gas train assembly. Keep the propane to the fridge shut off until it’s replaced.
