Norcold 2118 Flashing Temperature Setting (Thermistor Fault)
The controls can’t read the fin thermistor (temperature sensor). The fridge keeps cooling on a backup timer (BOS mode) until the sensor is fixed.
Before you start
- Where it is. The fresh food thermistor clips to the 2nd cooling fin from the right inside the fridge.
- Backup mode still lets the temperature setting adjust how long it cools.

The Norcold 2118 four-door, 2-way (120V AC and propane) refrigerator, including the IM (ice maker) and IMD (ice maker and dispenser) versions.
What you’ll see
Your temperature setting flashes for about 10 seconds when you wake the display (press MODE or TEMP SET). Any number can flash; 6 is just an example.
STEP 1
Check the plug
Make sure the fin thermistor is plugged in and its connector is clean and not broken.
Is it connected properly?
Reconnect it
Clean or repair the connection.
STEP 2
Check diagnostic screen 3
Enter diagnostic mode and go to screen 3, which shows the fin temperature the thermistor is reading. 00 means open, 99 means shorted.
Does it show 00 or 99?
Replace the thermistor
The sensor is open or shorted.

Test the resistance
Measure across the thermistor’s connector with the sensor in an ice bath (32°F should read 30 to 32 kΩ), or compare with this table:

| 32°F | 30.0–32.0 kΩ |
Or check the fin with an infrared thermometer: it should be within 6°F of screen 3.
Is it in range?
Replace the thermistor

The sensor checks good, so the board may not be reading it. Ask a tech.
