Norcold N6XX / N8XX dr Code (Door Open Over 2 Minutes)
The controls think the fresh food door has been open for more than two minutes. Either it really isn’t closing, a door was reversed without moving the magnet, or the light switch in the display board has failed.
Before you start
- How the switch works. A magnet under the top door trim holds a reed switch in the optical control board open (light off) when the door is closed. Opening the door turns the light on.
- Before you start make sure the light/thermistor connector and the wire harness connector are fully plugged in and locked.
- You’ll need a magnetic-tip screwdriver or small magnet.
Fits these models
Includes 2-way and 3-way versions, plus the .3 and IM (ice maker) versions.
What you’ll see on your model
N61X / N81X (LED lights)
N62X / N82X (one-letter display)
N64X / N84X (two-part display)
STEP 1
Check the door latch striker
Close the fresh food door and check that it latches firmly. Look at the striker plate.
Is the striker plate adjusted correctly?
Adjust the striker plate
Adjust it so the door closes and latches fully.
STEP 2
Check the door swing
Ask whether the doors were ever switched to open the other way.
Was the door swing changed?
Check the magnet location
Only the top door trim has a magnet. If the doors were inverted instead of changed per the owner’s manual, the magnet isn’t where the switch expects it, and the light stays on with the door closed.
STEP 3
Test the lamp switch
Slide a magnetic screwdriver tip or small magnet along the underside of the optical control assembly while watching the fresh food light.
Does the light turn off when the magnet passes under the display, and on when you move it away?
Replace the optical control assembly
The reed switch is built into the display board, so the whole assembly has to be replaced. See our optical display boards and discontinued board options, or ask a tech.
The switch works
Recheck that the door closes fully and the magnet in the top trim is in place.
Still stuck? ask a tech with your model, serial number and the readings you got. We’ll confirm the part before you order.
