Norcold N15DC and N20DC Error Code E4: Door Open

CODE E4

Norcold N15DC and N20DC Error Code E4: Door Open

A door has been open (or the fridge thinks it has) for longer than 2 minutes.

Before you start

  • You’ll need a sheet of paper about the size of a dollar bill.
  • Good to know a door that doesn’t seal also lets frost build up inside.

Fits these models

N15DCN15DCSSN15DCIMSSN20DCN20DCSS

Norcold’s 12V DC compressor refrigerators (14.9 and 18.6 cu ft). These run on 12 volts only: no propane, no 120V heater.

What you’ll see

ON/OFFMODENORCOLDN15DC / N20DC

E4 blinking in the MODE display. It means a door has been open longer than 2 minutes, or the door sensor isn’t seeing it close.

STEP 1

Close the doors fully

Push each door closed until it clicks into the travel latch. Look for food, bins or shelves that stop a door from closing all the way.

?

Does the code clear once the doors are shut?

STEP 2

Test the door seal

Norcold’s test: close the door on a sheet of paper and pull it out gently. You should feel slight resistance. Repeat on all four sides of each door.

▼
?

Resistance on all sides?

STEP 3

Check the door sensor magnet and latch

The fridge knows a door is shut using a magnet in the door. Check that it’s in place and not loose or missing, and that the latch closes and holds.

▼
?

Magnet and latch OK?

NO
▼

Replace the magnet or latch

Replace the missing or damaged part, then check the code.

YES

Ask a tech

With the doors sealing and the magnet in place, the door switch or control board may be at fault. Ask a tech with your model and serial number.
