Norcold N4000 Display Won’t Turn On (N4104, N4141, N4150)
BLANK DISPLAY
Norcold N4000 Display Won’t Turn On (N4104, N4141, N4150)
The display stays black even when you hold the power button for 5 seconds. Either 12 volts isn’t reaching the fridge, or a short outside the fridge has blown the protective resistor on the power board.
Before you start
- Where things are. The power board, fuses, burner and heaters are behind the lower outside vent on the back of the fridge. The control panel is on the front, at the top.
- Good voltage is 10 to 15 volts DC on the low-current (control) 12V input.
- You’ll need a multimeter set to DC volts and continuity.
Fits these models
The Norcold N4000 series, built by Thetford. 3-way (12V DC, 120V AC and propane).
STEP 1
Hold the power button
Press and hold the power button for at least 5 seconds.
Does the display come on?
You’re done
It was just turned off.
STEP 2
Measure the 12V input
Measure DC volts at the fridge’s low-current 12V input.
Is it a steady 10 to 15 volts?
Fix the RV’s 12V supply
The problem is outside the fridge: battery, converter, fuse or wiring. Repair it, then try again.
STEP 3
Check for a short to ground
Disconnect all cables from the power board first. Then check for continuity between the low-current ground (black wire) and the burner box / yellow earth (PE) wire.
Is there continuity?
Find the short in the RV
The 0-ohm resistor on the power board has blown because of a short circuit outside the fridge. Find and isolate the short in the RV wiring first, then replace the power board. Match the part number on your old board; see the N4150, N4141 or N4104 parts or ask a tech.
Replace the power board
Replace the power board. Match the part number on your old board; see the N4150, N4141 or N4104 parts or ask a tech.
Still stuck? ask a tech with your model, serial number and the code you’re seeing. We’ll confirm the part before you order.
Covers the Norcold N4104, N4141 and N4150. Based on Thetford’s N4000 troubleshooting guide (No error code: display is black), with North American voltage and gas pressure values.
