Norcold N6XX / N8XX Blank Display (Won’t Turn On)
BLANK DISPLAY
Norcold N6XX / N8XX Blank Display (Won’t Turn On)
Nothing lights up and the fridge won’t turn on. Follow the 12 volts from the RV to the power board, through the F1 fuse, and up to the optical control (display) board to find where it stops.
Before you start
- Where things are. The power board is behind the lower outside vent, under a cover on the back of the fridge. The optical control assembly is in the front box at the top of the fridge, above the freezer door.
- Good voltage is 10.5 to 15.4 volts DC.
- Nothing else on the circuit. No other RV appliances or lights should be connected to the fridge’s 12V circuit.
- You’ll need a multimeter set to DC volts and continuity.
Fits these models
Includes 2-way and 3-way versions, plus the .3 and IM (ice maker) versions.
What you’ll see on your model
N61X / N81X (LED lights)
N62X / N82X (one-letter display)
N64X / N84X (two-part display)
PART A · 12V TO THE POWER BOARD
Is good 12V getting to the fridge?
STEP 1
Make sure it’s turned on
Press the ON/OFF button. A fridge that was simply turned off shows the same blank display.
Does it turn on?
You’re done
It was just turned off.
STEP 2
Measure the DC input
Measure DC volts across the power board’s 12VDC and GND1 terminals.
Is it 10.5 to 15.4 volts DC?
Fix the RV’s 12V supply
Either no DC power is reaching the fridge from the RV, or the wiring or connectors are faulty. Check the battery, converter, the fridge’s fuse or breaker in the RV’s DC panel, and the wires to the power board. Repair the problem, then measure again. Low battery? See our low-voltage checks.
STEP 3
Check the F1 fuse
Pull fuse F1 from the power board and check it for continuity. A good fuse reads about 0 ohms; a blown one reads OL.
Is the fuse good?
Replace the fuse
Put in a new standard 5-amp (tan) automotive blade fuse, then try the ON/OFF button again. If it blows again, there’s a short. Find it before you put in another fuse.
PART B · POWER BOARD & DISPLAY
The board has power. Is it reaching the display?
STEP 4
Measure at the display harness
At the optical control display’s wire harness connector, measure DC volts between the White/Violet and White/Red wires.
Is there 10.5 to 15.4 volts?
Replace the power board
Power goes into the board, but it isn’t sending it to the display. Replace the power board. Match the part number on your old board.

Norcold Upgraded Power Board (Dinosaur) 6212XX →Aftermarket upgrade board for N6XX and N8XX models.Replace the optical control board
Power reaches the display, but it won’t turn on, so the optical control board has failed. The part depends on your model and serial number, and many are hard to find. See our optical display boards and discontinued board options, or ask a tech before you order.
Still stuck? ask a tech with your model, serial number and the readings you got. We’ll confirm the part before you order.
