Norcold N6XX / N8XX dc rE Code (DC Relay Stuck Closed)
On 3-way models, the relay that switches the 12V DC heater is stuck closed. The heater can stay on when it shouldn’t and drain your battery. The relay is part of the power board, so the fix is a new board.
Before you start
- Where things are. The power board, fuses and burner are behind the lower outside vent, under a cover on the back of the fridge. The optical control (display) assembly is in the front box at the top.
- 3-way models only. 2-way models don’t have a DC heater or this code.

STEP 1
Confirm the code
Turn the fridge off and back on.
Does the dc rE code come back?
Keep an eye on it
If it doesn’t return, the fridge is running normally.
Replace the power board
The DC relay on the power board is stuck closed. Turn the fridge off if the battery is draining until the board is replaced.
