Current and Discontinued Dometic RV Refrigerators: Complete Replacement Guide (2026)

Dometic has renamed and replaced its RV refrigerators several times: RM models became DM models, and the original Americana line became Americana II. If your Dometic needs replacing, the good news is that most current models are built for the same openings as the ones they replaced. This guide lists the current Dometic RV refrigerators and matches older models to their replacements.

Quick answer

Most 6 cu. ft. Dometics (DM2652, DM2662, RM3762, DMR702) are replaced by the DM2672 or DM2682. Most 8 cu. ft. Dometics (DM2852, DM2862, RM3862, RM4872) are replaced by the DM2872 or DM2882. Four-door models are replaced by the RM1350. Find your model number on the label inside the fresh food compartment, then use the table below.

Older Dometic Refrigerators and Their Replacements

6 Cubic Foot Dometics

Older models: DM2652, RM2652, DM2662, RM2662, DM2663, RM2663, DM3662, RM3662, RM3663, RM3762, DMR702

Stay with propane: The DM2672 replaces the DM2652, and the DM2682 adds an adjustable thermostat. Both fit the 53-3/4" × 23-11/16" × 24" opening shared by the 6 cu. ft. family, including the 7 cu. ft. RM3762 and DMR702.

Note: DM2652 door panels don’t fit the DM2672. Plan on new panels.

Switch to 12V DC: The Norcold N8DC (8 cu. ft.) fits this opening with a little filler trim on top.

8 Cubic Foot Dometics

Older models: DM2852, RM2852, DM2862, RM2862, DM3862, RM3862, RM3863, RM4872, RM4873, NDR1062, RM3962

Stay with propane: The DM2872 replaces the DM2852, and the DM2882 replaces the DM2862. Both fit the 59-15/16" × 23-11/16" × 24" opening.

RM3962 owners: the RM3962 is about 3" taller than the 2852/2862, so you’ll need filler trim above the new unit.

Switch to 12V DC: The Norcold N10DC (10 cu. ft.) uses nearly the same 59-7/8" × 23-1/2" × 24" opening.

Four-Door Dometics

Older models: RM1272, RM1282, RM7030, RM7130, RM7732, RM7832, NDR1292, NDR1492, NDA1402

The RM1350 Elite 2+2 is Dometic’s current 4-door refrigerator, at 13.5 cu. ft. It’s Dometic’s listed replacement for these older 4-door and NDR models.

Small Dometic Refrigerators (RM2351, RM2354, RM2454, RM2554)

Dometic has discontinued its small absorption refrigerators. A Dometic representative confirmed in 2025 that the 3 cu. ft. RM2351 and RM2354 are no longer made, and the 4 and 5.5 cu. ft. RM2451, RM2454, RM2551 and RM2554 have become very hard to find. There is no current Dometic propane refrigerator in these sizes.

  • Replace the cooling unit. If the cabinet, boards and burner are good, a new cooling unit can keep your original fridge running. See Dometic cooling units.
  • Switch to a compact 12V compressor fridge, like the Dometic CRX-1080 or NRX1060. They’re smaller inside, so measure carefully.
  • Consider a Norcold. The Norcold N4150 (5.3 cu. ft., 3-way) is the closest current propane option to the RM2554 class. Check your opening dimensions first.

12V DC Upgrades That Fit the Same Opening

Moving to lithium and solar? A 12V compressor refrigerator cools faster, doesn't need to be level and has no ammonia cooling unit to fail. These fit the standard Dometic openings:

Dometic opening Fits Notes
6 cu. ft. (53-3/4" × 23-11/16" × 24") Norcold N8DC (8 cu. ft.) Small filler strip on top
8 cu. ft. (59-15/16" × 23-11/16" × 24") Norcold N10DC (10 cu. ft.) Nearly identical opening

You’ll need heavy-gauge 12V wiring to the battery, and the propane line capped by a qualified tech. See the Norcold replacement guide for more on gas vs. 12V DC.

How to Read a Dometic Model Number

Part of the number What it means Example
RM / DM RM is the older prefix; DM is the newer name for the same family RM2652 = DM2652 (DM vs RM explained)
26xx / 28xx In the Americana family: 26 = 6 cu. ft., 28 = 8 cu. ft. DM2672 = 6 cu. ft.
...2 / ...3 For 26xx/28xx models, ending in 2 = 2-way (LP/AC), ending in 3 = 3-way (LP/AC/12V) DM2683 = 3-way
R / L Door hinge side DM2672RB1 = right hinge
B Black trim/frame DM2672RB1
