Norcold 1200 / 1210 FL -- Code (Flame Present With Gas Off)
The display alternates between FL and -- and the alarm beeps. The controls sensed a flame at the burner when it isn’t supposed to be lit. Either the gas valve is letting propane through, or the board is wrongly sensing (or causing) a flame.
Before you start
- Treat it as a gas problem. A valve that’s stuck open can let propane flow when it shouldn’t. If you smell propane, shut the gas off at the tank, don’t flip switches and get everyone out before anything else.
- When it sets. In any mode, about 25 seconds after a flame is sensed with the gas valve supposed to be off. It’s saved in the fault history (screen 5, segment 2).
- You’ll need a flashlight and a multimeter set to DC volts.
STEP 1
Look at the burner
Behind the lower outside vent, look through the burner box at the burner while the fridge is not calling for gas (set it to AC mode, or turn it OFF).
Is there a flame?
Replace the power board
There’s no real flame, so the board’s flame sense circuit is giving a false reading. Replace the power board.

Check for 12V at the gas valve
With the flame still burning, measure DC volts across the gas valve solenoid terminals.
Is voltage present at the coil?
Replace the gas valve
Nothing is telling the valve to open, but gas is still getting through. The valve is leaking internally or stuck open. Shut off the propane to the fridge until it’s replaced. The gas valve part number depends on your model and serial, so ask a tech to get the right one.
Replace the power board
The board is powering the gas valve when it should be off. Replace the power board, and keep the propane off until you do.
