Norcold 1200 / 1210 no FL Code (Burner Failed to Light or Relight)
The display alternates between no and FL and the alarm beeps. The fridge tried to light the propane burner for 30 seconds and never sensed a flame, so it locked out LP.
Before you start
- Propane first. Make sure there’s propane in the tank, every valve to the fridge is open, and the stove lights. After a tank swap, light a stove burner for a minute to bleed air out of the line, then reset the fridge.
- Gas pressure should be 10.5 to 11.5 inches of water column. Checking it takes a manometer, so most owners have an RV tech do this one.
- When it sets. In AUTO or manual LP, about 25 seconds after the 30-second trial for ignition runs out. It’s saved in the fault history (screen 4, segment 1).
- You’ll need a multimeter, a gap gauge or drill bits for 1/8″ and 3/16″, and basic hand tools.
STEP 1
When was the burner last cleaned?
Rust flakes, soot and spider webs in the burner and orifice are a common cause of no FL.
Were the orifice and burner serviced and cleaned in the last 12 months?
Service and clean the burner and orifice
With the propane off, remove and clean the orifice and clear the burner tube. Then reset and test on LP. See not staying lit on propane for tips.
STEP 2
Check the electrode gap
Measure the air gap between the spark/sense electrode tip and the burner.
Is the gap 1/8″ to 3/16″?
Set the air gap
Bend or reposition the electrode so the gap is 1/8″ to 3/16″, then test on LP.
STEP 3
Check the spark/sense assembly
Check the electrode wire for continuity end to end, look for cracks in the white ceramic, and make sure the electrode is tight.
Is the assembly good?
Replace the electrode assembly
A cracked ceramic, a loose electrode or a wire without continuity can’t spark or sense reliably.
Norcold Spark / Sense Electrode 61692222 →The 1200 and 1210’s single spark/sense electrode.GAS VALVE AND BOARD
The burner and electrode check out. Now see if the gas valve is opening.
STEP 4
Measure the gas valve coil
With the fridge off, disconnect the gas valve solenoid wires and measure the coil’s resistance.
Does the coil read 79 to 85 kΩ?
Replace the gas valve assembly
Norcold lists this coil at 79 to 85 kΩ. A reading far outside that, or no reading at all, means the coil has failed. If your meter shows about 80 but on a different scale, ask a tech before you buy a valve. The gas valve part depends on your model and serial number, so ask a tech to get the right one.
STEP 5
Check the coil wires
Check the continuity of the solenoid coil wires between the power board’s P1 connector (pins P1-2 and P1-10) and the gas valve.
Do the wires have continuity?
Repair the wires
Fix the broken wire or loose terminal, then test on LP.
STEP 6
Check for 12V at the valve
Reconnect everything. Turn the fridge on in LP mode and measure DC volts at the gas valve coil while it tries to light (the 30-second trial for ignition).
Is voltage present during the trial for ignition?
Replace the power board
The board isn’t sending power to open the gas valve. Replace the power board.
Norcold Power Board 628661 →OEM board for every 1210, and 1200s with serial 8981139 and above.
Norcold Upgraded Power Board (Dinosaur) 6212XX →For older 1200s with serial 8981138 and below.Replace the gas valve
The valve is getting power but still not letting gas through. Replace the gas valve. ask a tech for the right one for your serial number.
Still stuck? ask a tech with your model, serial number and the readings you got. We’ll confirm the part before you order.
