Norcold N7X, N8X, & N10X Models Troubleshooting (fault codes and HELP!)
Norcold Polar fault codes, in one flowchart
For the Norcold Polar N7, NA7, N8, NA8, N10 and NA10, including the X, LX and V versions. Start at the top, pick what your control panel shows, do the quick checks, then open the full article for the step-by-step fix and the exact part.
STEP 1
Look at the control panel
Watch it for a full minute. Flashing codes flash, go dark for about 5 seconds and repeat, so count twice.
What do you see?
RED LIGHT STAYS ON
It isn’t flashing at all.
Red light stays on
The fridge couldn’t run on the source you picked. With no 120V it switched to propane and couldn’t light it (gas lockout).
CHECK FIRST
- Turn it OFF and back ON once.
- Check shore power or the generator, and that the propane tank isn’t empty.
- Have a Fridge Defend or thermal safety switch? Check that it hasn’t tripped.

Count the flashes, then find your number. There is no 6- or 7-flash code on these models.
1 red flash
AC heater fault. Electric mode is locked out. It usually still cools on propane.
CHECK FIRST
- Check that the outlet has 108–132 volts AC on its own circuit.
- Unplug the fridge and measure the heater: 38–50 ohms is good.

Internal control fault. The power board found a problem inside itself.
CHECK FIRST
- Make sure the gas valve wires are plugged in.
- Reset once. If the code comes back, replace the power board.

AC heater relay stuck on. The board can’t turn the heater off.

- Reset once. If the code comes back, replace the power board.

Flame sensed when there shouldn’t be one. The gas valve is stuck open.

- Shut off the propane to the fridge first, and check for the smell of gas.
- Norcold’s fix is a new gas train, not cleaning the valve.

12V DC supply too low. The controls need 12V in every mode.
CHECK FIRST
- Check the battery, then the voltage at the fridge.
- Check the fridge’s 12V fuse, the ground and every connection.

- Turn off all charging, reset, then turn chargers back on one at a time.
- Make sure each charger is set for your battery type.

The display and the power board lost communication.

- Check the blue wire is plugged in at both boards (P1-14 and P1-3).
- Test that wire for continuity and shorts before buying a board.

The fridge is still running, but on its backup control.
Snowflakes flashing
Thermistor fault. The fridge runs on its backup control and may run too warm or too cold.
CHECK FIRST
- Check the thermistor plug and wire.
- Do the ice test: 30–32 kΩ at 32°F is good.

Limp mode on some versions: green on AC, amber on LP. The thermistor has failed or its wire is open.

- Check the thermistor plug and wire for breaks.
- Test the thermistor with a meter.

Nothing lights up, or you see letters instead of lights.
Display is blank
The fridge is off, or 12V isn’t reaching the display.
CHECK FIRST
- Press the power button.
- Measure 10.5–16.0 volts DC at the power board, then check the 5-amp F1 fuse.
